"Tikkun Rachel Lea” Two in one! Ten Days of Repentance
Rabbi Simcha Hakohen Kook - Chief Rabbi and Presiding Judge - Rehovot
Recommendation for assistance in seeking the daughter of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising rebel, and bringing to light the true Warsaw Ghetto Uprising narrative I hereby confirm that I am acquainted with Reb Ofer Aloni who served as chair of the City of Emanuel
Religious Council and has taught at Yeshivat Hadarom of Rehovot. Ofer is named for his aunt Sarenka’s Polish Underground moniker, Ofra. The full name of Sarenka, rouser of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, is Rachel Lea Zylberberg. With supreme self-sacrifice, Sarenka handed her infant daughter Maya into another’s care in Vilna, reentering the besieged Warsaw Ghetto for the sake of all Israel, to realize two goals: 1. to inform the ghetto residents of the Nazi genocide in Punar , near Vilna; 2. to rouse the first civil rebellion against the Nazis, guided by the Jewish ethic of “As one man with one heart.”
Rachel Lea Sarenka met her death in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Her name is engraved on the memorial at 18 Mila Street, above the bunker of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising command center I warmly recommend assisting Ofer Sarenka with spiritual and financial support in finding his cousin Maya, Sarenka’s daughter; and in promoting and advertising this story through avenues which Ofe feels are appropriate in order to perpetuate the first civil rebellion against Nazism, a rebellion nurtured by Jewish ethics and morals, and to glorify heaven’ name. With priestly blessings of love,
Rabbi Simcha Hakohen Kook
